Firebrand Congress leader and former minister Konda Surekha, who is being tipped as the party candidate for the ensuing by-elections to Huzurabad assembly seat, is learnt to have accepted the proposal, but subject to certain conditions.
Initially, there were reports that Surekha was not interested in contesting the Huzurabad by-poll, when PCC chief A Revanth Reddy came up with the proposal, since she is the only candidate who can put up a tough fight.
She is aware that it is difficult to win the by-elections in Huzurabad, because the contest is mainly between TRS candidate Gellu Srinivasa Yadav and BJP candidate Eatala Rajender.
But Surekha also being a BC candidate, it would help the Congress gain at least a respectable vote share.
Later, Surekha is learnt to have okayed the proposal after being convinced by Revanth Reddy. However, she reportedly put up some conditions before the high command if she has to contest the polls.
It is learnt Surekha told the high command that it should not be a one-time offer for her to contest from Huzurabad.
She has to be given the party ticket in 2023 assembly elections as well because the present by-polls would give her a chance to consolidate a vote bank.
Secondly, Surekha also demanded that her followers should be given the party tickets for Warangal Urban, Parkal and Bhupalpalli assembly constituencies.
The high command reportedly agreed to her demands, except the one on Bhupalpally constituency, which may be offered to Gandra Satyanarayana Rao who joined the Congress recently.
If Surekha compromises on Bhupalpally, then the Congress high command would concede all the other demands. If it is okay for her, the high command would announce her name for Huzurabad by-poll, sources said.
