Popular YouTuber and Bigg Boss fame Alekhya Harika alias Dethadi Harika was forced to step down from the post of ambassador of Telangana tourism within a day after her appointment by the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation.
She announced her resignation through Twitter late on Tuesday night saying she won’t be continuing in the post further “due to several other reasons.”
She thanked all her well-wishers and expressed sorry for all the disappointment she had caused to them.
A couple of days ago, Tourism Development Corporation chairman Uppala Srinivas Gupta appointed Harika as the brand ambassador for promoting and marketing the tourism department hotels and properties.
But very soon, her appointment kicked up a controversy, as he reportedly did not take permission from Pragathi Bhavan.
There were leaks from the TRS party sources that party working president and state IT minister K T Rama Rao was not happy with the appointment of Harika, since she is not a big name in the entertainment industry.
State tourism minister V Srinivas Goud joined the issue and told the media that he was not even aware of the appointment and that he didn’t even know who Harika was.
“I don’t know how she was given the appointment. Maybe Srinivas Gupta was not aware that he should take permission from the government, as he is new to the post,” he said.
The minister said he would have a discussion with Srinivas Gupta and get a clarification.
“I have no differences with him. We shall appoint a committee in this regard and if it feels Harika is the right candidate, we shall continue her,” he said.
But the slugfest between Gupta and Goud has definitely hurt Harika, who quietly and gracefully stepped down from the post, before she faced further humiliation.
