In a major relief for Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former minister T. Harish Rao, the Telangana High Court on Thursday dismissed the case filed against him in connection with the alleged phone tapping scandal.
The court struck down the FIR registered by Panjagutta police, which was based on a complaint from real estate businessman Chakradhar Goud. Along with Harish Rao, Radha Kishan Rao was also named as an accused in the case.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the high court ruled that the Congress-led Telangana government’s attempt to file a case against Harish Rao was unlawful. The court stated that the case lacked legal grounds and was filed without proper evidence or inquiry.
The case against Harish Rao was registered at Panjagutta police station in December 2024. Alleging that the FIR was baseless, Harish Rao challenged it in the Telangana High Court, claiming it was a politically motivated conspiracy to falsely implicate him.
In response, he filed a quash petition, seeking the dismissal of the FIR. After prolonged legal proceedings, the court delivered its final verdict today, ruling that there was no substantial evidence to support the allegations.
Following the ruling, BRS leaders and party workers hailed the verdict as a victory against political vendetta, accusing the Congress government of misusing legal cases to target opposition leaders.
The decision is being seen as a setback for the Telangana government, reinforcing claims that the case was politically motivated and lacked merit.
