Newly-elected Bharatiya Janata Party parliament member from Malkajgiri constituency Eatala Rajender is all set to take over as the BJP Telangana unit president shortly, according to party sources.
Reports from New Delhi said Eatala is going to have a meeting with senior BJP leader and Union minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday. In all probability, a decision would be taken after the meeting, party sources said.
Though Eatala was expecting a berth in the Union cabinet which was sworn on Sunday evening, he did not chance as Modi had already promised the cabinet posts to Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay.
Moreover, the party also had to accommodate another MP from Andhra Pradesh – Bhupati Srinivas Varma.
However, the party is learnt to have offered state BJP chief post to Eatala, as he has the tremendous organising capabilities.
His services are need for the party in the wake of forthcoming elections to the gram panchayats, mandal parishads and zilla parishads.
“The party organisation has to be strengthened in the coming years, as the BJP has proved to be an effective alternative to the Congress in view of the downfall of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. And there is no better person than Eatala to strengthen the party,” sources said.
Since Eatala is also a BC leader on the lines of Bandi Sanjay, his appointment would help consolidate the BC vote bank in the state.
“We proposed to make BC as the chief minister if the BJP comes to power in Telangana. Since we could not come to power, the party is contemplating handing over at least the party reins to a BC leader,” a party leader said.
