The meeting of veteran politician and Rajya Sabha member Dharmapuri Srinivas with Bharatiya Janata Party national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday came as an irritant to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
DS, as the senior leader from Nizamabad is popularly known, has been keeping away from the TRS since last year, after he was sidelined in the party following a complaint from party president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
However, DS does not want to forego his Rajya Sabha membership. Though he has not been getting any invitation from the party for any of the activities, including parliamentary party meetings, he has not been openly indulging in any anti-party activities.
A few months ago, DS met Congress president Rahul Gandhi, but did not wear any Congress khanduwa nor did he move along with the other Congress leaders. Now, he has met the BJP president but did not sport the saffron khanduwa.
“Nowhere has he given the impression that he has joined the other party. And surprisingly, DS turned up at the meeting of TRS MPs. Though nobody talked to him, he just spent some time there and went out, creating an impression that he is very much in TRS,” a party source said.
But it is pretty much evident that DS is looking to join the BJP. His younger son D Arvind was recently elected as the Lok Sabha MP from Nizamabad defeating Kavitha.
And the TRS has enough information that DS, with the alleged support of Congress candidate Madhu Yashki Goud, worked strongly for the defeat of Kavitha.
Now, the TRS is waiting for an opportunity to seek disqualification of DS from Rajya Sabha, but the seasoned leader is not giving any such opportunity.
He is waiting for the party to expel him, so that he can retain the RS seat!
