When you are not sure of your defeat in the elections, you can make any promise to the people – even it is bringing moon to the earth. After all, it doesn’t cost you anything to make promises!
This seems to be the philosophy of the Congress party in Telangana, which virtually promised moon to the people in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. The party leaders themselves know it is virtually impossible to implement these promises, but they don’t lose anything, except seats.
Look at some of these promises:
Rs 50,000 to every affected family and Rs 5 Lakhs and Rs 2.5 Lakhs to fully and partially destroyed houses.
Ex-Gratia of Rs 25 lakhs to every person who died due to floods.
Free water supply up to 30000 liters and drinking water connection will be given with free of cost.
Planning and implementation of a Comprehensive Drainage System to prevent flooding across the limits of HMDA, taking future Urbanisation into account.
All health centres to do free lab tests and dispense free medicines.
Free local transportation for women, students, divyangans and senior citizens in Metro, MMTS and RTC Buses.
Rs 8 lakhs will be given to the families who have a plot to construct a house and if they have a single bedroom house Rs 4 lakhs will be given to construct an additional room.
Property tax relief of Rs 50,000 for small commercial properties to help low- and middle-income groups
Waiver of Property tax 100% for all Ex Servicemen, War widows, Disabled soldiers
Complete waiver of Property tax and electricity bills to shops belonging to barbers, washer men, carpenters and Goldsmiths and for these communities, the shops’ permissions will be given free of cost by GHMC
Exempt electricity charges for domestic consumers who utilize below 100 units in GHMC
Implement Land regularisation scheme (LRS) & Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) with no fees
Entire Parking lots of all shopping malls, multiplexes under GHMC to be made free for the public.
If you want anything else free of cost, ask the Congress party, it will include in the manifesto!
