Cash for vote scam: Temporary relief to Revanth!

Cash for vote scam: Temporary relief to Revanth!

The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted stay on the orders of the Telangana high court which dismissed the quash petition of Pradesh Congress Committee chief and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy in the sensational cash-for-vote case of May 2015.

Revanth Reddy moved the high court questioning the trial court’s order and argued that the Anti-Corruption Bureau had no jurisdiction in his case, as the Prevention of Corruption Act was not applicable for him.

The high court, however, dismissed his petition and ordered that the trial court could go ahead with the case.

Revanth then moved the Supreme Court challenging the high court orders.

A division bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Vineeth Saran and Justice Dinesh Maheswari, which heard the arguments on Monday, granted stay on the high court orders and posted the case to September 7 for further hearing.

The Supreme Court also granted stay on the high court orders on a separate petition filed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah seeking to remove his name from the case.

Like Revanth, Sandra, too, approached the SC after the Telangana High Court dismissed his petition filed before it with the same plea.

Earlier, the Supreme Court also directed the ACB special court in Hyderabad not to cross-examine the witnesses in the cash for vote scam case until further orders, thereby bringing to halt, the ongoing ACB court trial against the accused in the case.
