Can KCR take risk of fighting from Maharashtra?

There have been some interesting reports in a section of media that Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is contemplating contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Maharashtra as well, apart from one of the constituencies in northern Telangana.

According to these reports, KCR will be fighting the Lok Sabha elections, leaving the battle in the assembly elections to his son K T Rama Rao, thereby consolidating his efforts to enter national politics with a bang.

The BRS president has zeroed in on Medak parliamentary constituency in Telangana, which he had represented in the past. At the same time, he is working out the plans to contest the Lok Sabha elections from one of the constituencies in Maharashtra, bordering Medak.

The reports said KCR is getting a survey done by a Delhi-based organisation in the bordering constituencies of Maharashtra, like Solapur, Aurangabad or Nanded, where the BRS has made inroads in the recent past.

It is learnt the agency has started a survey last month to identify suitable constituencies for the party candidates in other states.

“Depending on the survey, he will study the winning prospects of the BRS in these constituencies. After that, he will take a call on contesting from Maharashtra,” the report said.

Analysts, however, say it is too risky for KCR to think of contesting the parliamentary elections in Maharashtra.

“The people in these constituencies do not accept the leaders from other states so easily, because they believe in Maratha pride. Even the so-called schemes of KCR do not appeal to them before the Maratha sentiment,” an analyst said.

Secondly, KCR has to first conquer the assembly elections in Telangana.

“If the BRS fails to return to power in the state, all his national plans will fall flat. Then it will be neither-here-nor-there kind of situation for KCR,” the analyst added.
