BRS manifesto apes Congress guarantees?

The manifesto released by Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for the upcoming Telangana elections on Sunday appears to be a modified six-guarantee agenda of the Telangana Congress party released a few days ago.

While the Congress promised to supply LPG cylinder to every woman at Rs 500, KCR announced that the BRS, if voted to power again, will supply the cylinder only for Rs 400.

While Congress has promised Rs 2,500 financial assistance to each poor woman under Mahalakshmi scheme, KCR announced Rs 3,000 under Sowbhagya Lakshmi scheme.

While the Congress announced increase of financial assistance to farmers to Rs 15,000 per year per acre to all farmers including tenant farmers, the BRS said it would give Rs 16,000 in the next five years.

While the Congress announced Cheyutha scheme, under which the poor would be provided health insurance up to Rs 10 lakh, besides pension of Rs 4,000, KCR said 93 lakh families falling below poverty line would be provided with life insurance cover up to Rs 5 lakh under KCR Bima.

KCR claimed that the manifesto, which reflects a visionary approach to governance, also underlines efforts to create a more inclusive and prosperous State and continue the agenda of development.

Apart from those replicating the Congress scheme, KCR announced fine rice (Sanna Biyam) to all 93 lakh families, raise in Aasara social security pensions from the existing Rs 2,016 to Rs 5,000 in a phased manner, increasing the coverage limit under Arogya Sri to Rs 15 lakh from the existing Rs 10 lakh, construction of another one lakh double bedroom houses in Hyderabad, establishment of 119 Gurukul (residential welfare) schools for the economically backward classes from upper castes etc.
