For the last few days, there has been a talk within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi circles that the party might come to an understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Telangana.
During his recent meetings with the party leaders, BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is learnt to have discussed the pros and cons of the party joining hands with the BJP.
Though some of the party leaders supported the idea, others reportedly expressed view that it might distance minorities from the party.
KCR did not disclose his mind, but the discussions generated a lot of talk within the party.
Apparently, they are given the understanding that the BRS might ultimately propose to join the National Democratic Alliance, as one party after the other is deserting the INDIA block, which only brightened the prospects of Narendra Modi becoming the Prime Minister for the third successive term.
It appears KCR has realised that it is easier to beat the Congress in the state only with the support of the BJP, as both are national parties and the BJP is going all out to decimate the Congress across the country.
That there is a talk within the BRS over an alliance with the BJP was evident from the statement of Malkajgiri MLA and former minister Ch Malla Reddy on Friday.
“Irrespective of whether we have a tie-up with the BJP or not, the BRS will contest from Malkajgiri MP seat,” he said.
The state BJP are clueless about this development, but are putting up a brave front. They feel it is part of KCR’s mind game to see that the BJP will not emerge as a big force in Telangana.
BJP national general secretary and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Friday asserted that there was no question of taking the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) into the National Democratic Alliance), as the BRS is a sinking ship and it will lose its existence after the Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to reporters, Sanjay was referring to the reports in a section of media that BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao had discussed the probability of his party joining hands with the BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
“This is nothing but a mind game of KCR to mislead the people for his petty political gains. He will stoop down to any level and resort to any dirty tricks for his selfish political interests,” he said.
Sanjay is of the view that KCR might have generated this talk (on allying with the BJP) within the party after he came to know that as many as eight sitting MLAs and five sitting MPs are ready to jump into the BJP.
“By giving such leaks, he would create an impression to prevent defection of the BRS leaders into the BJP, as they would feel that there was no point in joining the BJP when the BRS itself was allying with the saffron party,” Sanjay said.
He pointed out that his party had not entertained the BRS when it was in power.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself declared openly that KCR had approached him in 2020 itself and offered to join the NDA, as his government in Telangana was in neck-deep corruption, he pointed out.
“Now, the BRS is a sinking ship. It is not going to win even a single MP seat in the Lok Sabha elections. It doesn’t have good candidates to contest the polls. In fact, sitting MPs and MLs are looking towards other parties. In KCR’s own language, any leader who has a head over his trunk would not join hands with the BRS,” he said.
