BRS banking on negative campaign in T'gana polls!

BRS banking on negative campaign in T'gana polls!

It is a common phenomenon that the Opposition parties go to elections, questioning the failures of the ruling party, besides making their own promises, whereas the party in power seeks votes from the people based on its own performance in the last five years.

In a way, the Opposition depends on the negative vote for the ruling party, whereas the ruling party banks on the positive vote.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi is adopting a completely negative approach to face the next week’s assembly elections in Telangana.

Instead of highlighting the achievements of the K Chandrasekhar Rao government in the last nine and a half years, it is focussing more on highlighting the negative aspects of the Congress party.

“It is surprising, because the Congress is in the opposition. There is no point in talking about what it had done in the past, as the people have already taught a lesson to the Congress by rejecting it twice. If KCR wants to come to power again, he should talk about what he has done in the last two terms,” an analyst said.

The advertisement released by the BRS on page-1 of all the newspapers on Tuesday highlighting the scams of the Congress all over the country in the past shows how much the BRS is afraid of losing power to the Congress.

The advertisement describes Congress as “Scamgress” saying it had indulged in various scams before 2014 to the extent of Rs 48.20 lakh crore.

It mentions several scams right from Independence such as, Jeep Scandal Case-1948, INA Treasure Chest-1947, BHU Funds-1956, Maruti Scandal-1974, St. Kitts Forgery-1989, Cement Scam-1981, Jalgaon Housing Scam-1997, Telecom Scam-1996    Fertiliser Import Scam-2007, Purulia Arma Drop Case-1995, UTI Scam-1993    Sugar Import Scam-1994, Harshad Mehta Scam-1992, Palmolein Oil Import Scam-1993, Volkswagen Scam-2005, Vadhra DLF Land Grab-2013, Thorium Scam-2014, National Herald Scam-2012, Oil Scam-1976, 2G Spectrum Scam-2008, Note-For-Vote-2015, Commonwealth Games Scam-2010 etc.

The advertisement says: “A grand legacy of scams that will loot our future, too. Vote wisely,” it said, appealing to the voters to vote for car and Telangana.

The Congress party said the advertisement was against the model code of conduct and wondered how it was certified by Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.

“If this is not approved by MCMC, please take criminal action against BRS president K Chandrasekar Rao and working president K T Rama Rao,” the Congress said in a representation to the Election Commission.
