The issuance of summons to Bharat Rashtra Samithi legislator Kalvakuntla Kavitha by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning her in connection with the Delhi liquor scam has triggered an uproar in the party.
It is an open secret that the real intention of Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre to engineer ED attacks on Kavitha was to target her father and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has launched a no-holds-barred attack on the Narendra Modi government.
The BRS leaders have been on the rampage since Wednesday when Kavitha was served notices from the ED for questioning. On Thursday, his brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao went all out to attack the BJP for launching a political witch-hunt against KCR.
He said under the guise of an investigation into the Delhi excise policy case, the BJP has been targeting KCR and the other BRS leaders.
“The ED summons to Kavitha are in fact Modi summons. The Modi government has been targeting the chief minister, because he would be a threat to the Prime Minister at the national level,” he said.
Stating that the BRS was ready to face any consequences and would approach the courts for justice, KTR alleged that the ED and the CBI raids on the Opposition parties were aimed at eradicating democracy in the country.
“More than 95 per cent of raids conducted by the ED were on Opposition party leaders. However, the conviction was only in 23 cases of over 5,400 cases filed since the Modi regime began in 2014,” he said.
The BRS working president said the BJP’s double engine comprises Modi as one engine and Adani is another. “One is a political engine and another is a financial engine.
“Together, ‘Modani’ created a nefarious system where Modi does marketing for Adani, tweaks rules and gets him projects following which the latter diverts the profits to the former through electoral bonds and donations to the BJP which in turn uses the money to split the Opposition parties and topple the governments,” he accused.
He said unlike BJP leader BL Santosh who has been evading questioning even after being named in the MLAs poaching case, she, being a law-abiding citizen of the country, will appear for questioning at the ED office in Delhi,” he said.
