More than any other party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in an upbeat mood in Telangana following the completion of polling on Monday.
Unlike neighboring Andhra Pradesh, there isn't much excitement in Telangana, as the elections are for the Lok Sabha rather than the state assembly. Consequently, voter enthusiasm was relatively low.
While the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) relied heavily on party president K Chandrasekhar Rao’s bus yatra and campaigning by his son K T Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao, the other two main contenders – the Congress and the BJP – focused on public meetings and roadshows.
However, the usual polling day euphoria was missing. Even in terms of money distribution, the activity was subdued, leading to limited voter interest.
Of the three parties, the BJP is somewhat jubilant, as internal surveys suggest that the party could win a significant number of Lok Sabha seats. Estimates indicate that the BJP might win at least seven to eight seats.
A party leader stated that the BJP is confident of winning the seats in Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Chevella, Mahabubnagar, and Zaheerabad. The party might also win the Medak Lok Sabha seat if everything goes as planned.
On the other hand, the Congress is expected to win the seats in Adilabad, Peddapalli, Warangal, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Nalgonda, Bhongir, and Nagarkurnool.
The only seat where the BRS has a chance of winning is Medak, but it is a tough fight, as the BJP is also hopeful of securing this seat. The AIMIM will likely win the Hyderabad seat as usual.
Though the BJP claims it will reach double digits, analysts believe the party will be more than satisfied if it wins eight seats.
