In a sensational move, the Congress government in Telangana headed by chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday transferred all the police personnel in the high-profile Punjagutta police station in the heart of Hyderabad.
As many as 86 police personnel, right from circle inspector to home guards to security staff at the police, have been transferred and attached to armed reserve (AR) police wing.
Orders to this effect were issued by Hyderabad police commissioner Kothakota Srinivas Reddy, following the directions of the Revanth Reddy government. This is the first time that all the police personnel in a single police station have been transferred.
Apparently, the Revanth Reddy government has got the information that the police personnel in the Punjagutta police station have still been taking instructions from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi led by former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, even after he lost power.
The police station covers the erstwhile Pragati Bhavan, which housed the official bungalow and the camp office of KCR, and he has allegedly got all his favourite police officials posted there.
They continued to remain loyal to KCR and his family, even after Revanth Reddy took over as chief minister and converted Pragati Bhavan into Jyothiba Phule Praja Bhavan.
A few days ago, there was an incident of a car ramming into the gates of Praja Bhavan and it was found that the car belonged to former BRS MLA Mohammad Shakeel’s son and he was driving the car. But the Punjagutta police allegedly helped him escape and another driver was implicated in the case.
The Hyderabad police who probed the incident came to know that Shakeel’s son was brought to the Punjagutta police station and from there, he was allowed to escape. He has now fled to the Gulf countries. The government suspected the role of top police officials in this.
Besides, there is also a suspicion that the Punjagutta police officials are leaking crucial information to the BRS leadership on many issues. Hence the overhauling.
