Jagan most googled politician in state

Hyderabad: YS Jaganmohan Reddy has emerged as the most searched politician in the state, leaving other bigwigs far behind, says Google’s latest search trend as the state inches towards general elections.

The data averaged over the last 90 days collected from Andhra Pradesh search volumes show that YSRCP supremo Jagan’s search popularity is in the same league as BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

The comparison also shows that Jagan has left TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao behind, with little numerically significant data for the duo.

Jagan’s search volume from AP is nearly two-thirds that of Kejriwal and about half that of Modi.

The comparison between the state and national leaders also points to a keen interest among state denizens in national politics.

Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal were searched more than Jagan and Naidu and KCR search queries were mostly from Hyderabad. Surprisingly, Visakhapatnam and Vijaywada too had substantial amount of search queries, pertaining to Modi and Kejriwal but not the state leaders, the data shows.

“Jagan’s online popularity could be because he is fairly new to the political scene compared to Naidu and KCR who are well-known among people in the state and hence may not be searched for. There is also a certain intrigue about Jagan given his alleged involvement in economical offences and his incarceration,” said A V Satish Chandra of the department of political science at Osmania University.
