With elections fast approaching, the TDP government intends to distribute pattas to 50,000 hill area families in Vijayawada.
The families started living on the hills abounding the city by illegally constructing permanent structures decades, ago.
Now, the government intends to regularize those structures, which means the residents can even take loans from the banks now.
A middle-class man works his whole life to save enough money to buy a decent home and if he misses even one installment, the banks are at his throat.
But here, we have people resorting to land grabbing and instead of being thrown into jail for this, they are rewarded with title deeds to the lands they have encroached on.
What message is it sending to society? Grab lands wherever you can and construct houses there and soon, the government will make your black activity into white for your votes.
In this case, the votes of 50,000 families. Instead of rewarding honest people and encouraging honesty in society, these kinds of acts by the government will vitiate the atmosphere for a healthy and civilized culture.
Is it any wonder then that the middle class prefers to look or a good life in foreign countries which reward meritocracy and honesty even though their hearts lie with the motherland?
