X-Tra: Exodus of Students Hits Indian Universities

The Telangana government has introduced a 100% tax exemption on road and registration taxes for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in a bid to reduce pollution and encourage sustainable transportation. This initiative aligns with the state’s commitment to green mobility and environmental preservation.

In other news, Tata Group has sealed a deal with Pegatron, establishing a new iPhone manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. Tata holds a 60% stake while Pegatron controls 40%.

The plant, employing 10,000 workers is expected to produce 5 million iPhones annually marking Tata's third iPhone factory in India further strengthening the country’s role in global electronics manufacturing.

Meanwhile NITI Aayog’s CEO emphasized the need for 2,500 universities to accommodate the growing number of students in India.

Currently, the country has 1,200 universities serving over 4 crore students with many opting for international education in countries like the US, UK and Canada prompting a significant demand for higher education infrastructure.
