In FY24, Maharashtra emerged as the leader in women income tax payers with 36.8 lakh contributors, significantly ahead of Gujarat (22.5 lakh) and Uttar Pradesh (20.4 lakh).
Tamil Nadu (15.5 lakh) and Karnataka (14.3 lakh) rounded out the top five states showing their strong economic environments and opportunities for women.
However, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, despite their aspirations to be industrial and IT powerhouses, showed relatively poor performance in this metric.
Telangana ranked 12th with 8.5 lakh women tax payers, while Andhra Pradesh was even lower at 14th with just 6.5 lakh with Bihar in the last i.e 15th position with 5.1 lakh.
This underperformance highlights gaps in women’s workforce participation and economic empowerment in these states especially compared to their southern counterparts like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
This is the picture of women empowerment and the real strength of women in India in various states.
