Sakshi Jain, founder of Mumbai-based branding firm Viralyze Media, sparked an online discussion after sharing her friend’s internship experience on LinkedIn.
Jain revealed that her friend, a student at IIM Calcutta, secured a summer internship in Mumbai with a monthly stipend of Rs 3.5 lakh.
“Earning Rs 3.5 lakh per month in an internship? Yeah, my jaw dropped too,” Jain wrote.
The post quickly gained attention, prompting many to reflect on the real-world value of degrees from top institutes like the IIMs and IITs.
Jain, who had previously believed that degrees were not always necessary, admitted that this situation made her pause.
“Rs 7 lakh in two months? Maybe degrees do hold some weight after all,” she later shared on X.
She added, “We often say degrees don’t matter, and I’ve believed that too. But sometimes, they open doors you didn’t know existed.”
