Indian roads have been notorious for their poor quality a few decades ago. The Highways were so bad that time, where many used to prefer train journeys to road travels.
But with the decision of Atal Bihari Vajpayee the National Highways were developed in such a way that people started loving driving on roads between the cities.
The eventual Man Mohan Singh's government also focussed on the same and maintained the decorum of National Highways.
But the State Highways also have to be standardized in quality on par with that of National Highways to complement the development.
In fact, the internal roads within the cities and towns is another subject which should be dealt with by the local authorities.
The topic of roads has come up in the Parliament and the Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari delivered a ray of hope for all the Indians.
On Tuesday Nithin Gadkari quoted former US President John F Kennedy to say, "American roads are not good because America is rich but America is rich because American roads are good."
Speaking in Lok Sabha, Gadkari added, "I want to assure this House that before December 2024, India's road infrastructure will be like America's."
This is indeed a right topic to be discussed. The efficient roads and better connectivity solves many problems in India and it brings a look on par with the developed nations like the USA and China.
