An official from the Indian Embassy in Washington has reportedly been found dead under mysterious circumstances within the mission's premises.
As per the news agency PTI, local authorities, including the police and the Secret Service, are investigating the incident, which took place on Wednesday, with suicide being considered as one of the possibilities.
In an official statement released on Friday, the Embassy confirmed the death but refrained from providing further details.
"It is with deep regret that we confirm the passing of a member of the Embassy of India on the evening of September 18, 2024. We are in close contact with the relevant authorities and the family to ensure the prompt repatriation of the remains to India," the statement read.
"Out of respect for the family's privacy, no additional information about the deceased will be disclosed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family during this difficult time. We appreciate your understanding," it concluded.
