A new report by Kensington, a private luxury guided travel service, has ranked the top destinations for solo travelers in 2025. The ranking is based on data from affluent travelers in 2024 and two independent surveys conducted by Opinium Research and Dig Insight.
“Solo travelers are increasingly choosing destinations with deep cultural significance and unique landscapes, balanced with independence and seamless, personalized service,” said Matt Cammaert, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Kensington, in an interview with Travel + Leisure.
The report found that 76% of respondents were at least somewhat open to traveling alone internationally within the next three years.
India emerged as the top destination for solo travelers in 2025.
“From the vibrant streets of Jaipur to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, India’s diversity ensures that every traveler finds something extraordinary,” said Anit Singh, Kensington’s destination expert for the Indian subcontinent.
India is home to one of the modern-day Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The report describes India as offering a rich history and cultural depth that many travelers dream of experiencing for decades.
Following India, Italy secured the second spot as a top solo travel destination.
While Italy remains a perennial favorite, solo travelers heading to the European country are often fulfilling a unique personal dream, according to the report. These travelers tend to seek off-the-beaten-path experiences rather than mainstream tourist attractions.
This aligns with travel trend reports from Expedia and Booking.com, which indicate that vacationers are increasingly favoring quieter destinations over crowded global hotspots.
According to Expedia’s "Unpack 25" travel trend report, 63% of travelers are likely to visit lesser-known destinations on their next trip.
Italy is home to several iconic landmarks, including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, and the Duomo di Milano.
