Fact Check: 25% Layoffs in Dr. Reddy's Labs

The recent news regarding mass layoffs at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories has sent shockwaves through the pharma industry.

Several popular dailies published reports claiming that all employees earning packages above ₹1 crore were set to be laid off.

The reports also mentioned that the company was offering voluntary retirement to employees aged between 50–55 within its R&D division.

According to these sources, emails had already been sent to the concerned employees, asking them to either resign or opt for voluntary retirement.

However, within hours, the Corporate Communications division of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories issued an internal mail — later circulated widely among media personnel — clarifying the situation.

The mail reads- “Dear All, This is in reference to a news item published in Business Standard on April 13, 2025, with the headline ‘DRL trims workforce costs by 25% amid Revlimid-linked margin strain’. We wish to clarify that the said news is factually incorrect. We categorically deny the claim of a 25% workforce cost reduction and the other claims mentioned in the said news article.”

With this official clarification, the rumors surrounding layoffs at Dr. Reddy’s have been put to rest. What began as a concerning report has ultimately turned out to be gossip, not news.
