In a surprising turn of events, approximately 20,000 Indian students who had secured admission to Canadian colleges for 2024 have failed to show up for their studies. Where have they gone is the big question.
What was their actual intention in coming to Canada under the guise of being students?
Sources suggest that many of them have started working part-time jobs to earn as much as possible to clear the education loans they took back in India.
It is known that repaying education loans in India through local jobs is difficult, while working in Canada offers an opportunity to earn in dollars, which helps pay off loans and make a living.
However, the uncertainty of the job market in Canada and the lack of guaranteed employment after graduation have led some students to spend more time earning through part-time jobs.
Some have even decided to continue working and apply for asylum before completing their studies.
"This is truly shocking. Why are Indian students so desperate to land in Canada or the U.S., burdening their parents with huge loans, just to settle down by any means? Living with odd jobs and neglecting studies is difficult and unlawful here. Above all, asylum is next to impossible to get and all such students will be deported without second thought. If any consultant is primising them to get an asylum against some payment, the students should realize that's a scam and never happens," shares an Indian-origin Canadian citizen from Calgary, who settled there 25 years ago.
"Indian graduates are desperate to earn dollars by living in the USA or, at the very least, in Canada. They assume that once they land there, they are successful. But that’s not the case. They should realize that with their average educational background in India, they are receiving study visas, which means that colleges in Canada and the USA are simply admitting them to collect fees. There are no jobs for such average students in Canada, and the situation is worse than in the USA. Only the elite, wealthy students who have the means and the desire to study abroad should consider it, not everyone. Taking educational loans in India and landing in the USA or Canada is easy, but living there and repaying the loans will be a nightmare," shared another Canadian citizen.
