Reports in some media outlets suggest that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has shut down its party office in the Kuppam assembly constituency in Chittoor district, which is represented by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
According to sources, there have been no party activities in Kuppam since the announcement of assembly election results on June 4.
YSRCP in-charge of Kuppam and the party's candidate in the last elections, K.J.R. Bharat, has not been seen in the constituency since the election results were announced.
This situation has left the party in disarray, with party workers uncertain about their next steps.
Even senior YSRCP leader and former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, who oversaw party affairs in Kuppam, has been inaccessible to party workers.
As a result, several party leaders have decided to leave the YSRCP and join the TDP.
On Wednesday, at least eight municipal councillors, 20 sarpanches, and 60 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members traveled to Amaravati.
They are expected to formally join the TDP in the presence of Chandrababu Naidu later in the evening.
"Very soon, many other YSRCP leaders and workers from Kuppam will join the TDP," sources said.
Earlier this month, Kuppam Municipal Chairman Dr. Sudhir also indicated that he would quit the YSRCP and join the TDP, along with nine municipal councillors.
He had reportedly communicated his intention to a minister in Naidu's cabinet about joining the TDP.
Though Naidu did not immediately approve their entry, Dr. Sudhir is said to have continued lobbying, according to sources.
