Now that Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother and former MLA Y S Vijayalakshmi has resigned from the post of YSR Congress party honorary president and also from the primary membership of the party, speculations are on her next course of action.
At the YSRCP plenary being held in Guntur, Vijayamma declared on Friday that she was stepping down from the YSRCP as she has a responsibility to stand by her daughter Y S Sharmila, who floated YSR Telangana Party and has been waging a lone battle in Telangana.
This would mean Vijayalakshmi would now play an active part in the YSR Telangana Party. The question is what role she would play in the Telangana party and how she would handle it.
Speculations in a section of media indicate that Vijayamma might be appointed as the honorary president of the YSRTP and would play the role of an advisor to her daughter. It would mean she would not actively involve herself in the party activities.
There is also another talk that Vijayamma would play more active role in YSRTP, instead of being a mere figurehead.
In YSR Congress party, she had absolutely no role to play as Jagan was the whole and sole authority in the party. Though she was an honorary president, she was never taken into confidence in any of the party decisions.
She has now got a chance to become more active in politics. Compared to Jagan, Sharmila is said to be more accommodative and moreover, she needs the support of her mother if she wants to cash in on the positive image of her father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in Telangana.
So, it is believed that Sharmila may entrust key responsibility to Vijayamma in YSRTP.
Maybe, she would be made party’s secretary general or working president so that there would be more visibility for her among the people. Maybe, Vijayamma would also contest the next elections in Telangana!
