Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to the 'Centre' asking for the ‘Palamuru lift-irrigation scheme' to be stopped as it did not have the permission of the 'Krishna River Management Board'.
Harish Rao has taken a strong exception to this.
He said, “Although a part of the Krishna Basin, Hyderabad gets its drinking water from Manjeera. As this is proving to be insufficient, the lift-irrigation scheme has been started to provide Hyderabad with adequate drinking water from the Krishna river. Naidu is keen on diverting the Krishna water to the Penna basin. There are nearly 1 crore people living in Hyderabad and they will suffer as a result of this. I call upon industrialists, traders, IT professionals and film personalities to confront Naidu on this issue."
Harish Rao has cleverly asked Tollywood to respond on this issue.
By making the issue Hyderabad-specific, he has put the problem as one faced by Hyderabadis.
Also, by asking Tollywood personalities to respond, he has indeed put them in a spot of bother.
It is a known fact that the film industry is dominated by one particular community, a majority of whom have close political affiliations with Naidu.
If they speak out against Naidu, they would be seen in a poor light by their community and if they don’t they would be categorized as anti-Telangana, once again! What will Tollywood do? Is it fair to bring them into the issue at all?
