During the good old days, there would be ‘pittala doralu’ who would go from home to home telling interesting stories and at the end of their act ask for handful of grains.
Mostly, they would play with words and entertain the people of the house by making tall claims. “Akka neeku America nunchi cheeralu techcha.. bava neeku Dubai nunchi kadiyaalu techcha... ippude America president toh matladi nee kooturki sambandham techcha...” they go on and on this way.
Today, the Andhra Pradesh CM Chandra Babu Naidu is no different from a pittla dora. After promising the moon, he is now in a situation where he has to seek the Centre’s support to waiver loans for farmers, DWACRA women’s groups and weavers.
Already, devoid of a capital city, Andhra Pradesh Assembly is being held in rented premises. Despite being aware of these developments before hand, Chandra Babu managed to mesmerize people with false promises and gain power.
In Telangana, the loans have been waivered. But in Andhra Pradesh, the government appointed Kotaiah Committee and conveniently washed its hands off the matter.
On the other hand, the banks are totally against waiving loans as it would set a bad precedent.
If such promises are made all over India, then it would result in great financial crisis and they want to curtail the problem before it acquires gigantic proportions.
As for Chandra Babu, he is not a happy man despite being in CM’s seat. The loan waiving issue is giving him sleepless nights.
Added to that, Central government has announced that it will unearth all the black money stashed away in offshore accounts by Indians. This has compounded trouble for Chandra Babu Naidu.
Meanwhile, he and his Cabinet colleagues have been asking for donations to build a capital city in AP. So, given this scenario, how will be waiver the loans? And if doesn’t, how will he go into people and do anything concrete without their support?
The Centre might pitch in for the development of the new capital city.
But why and how will it bail out Babu’s government which made tall promises only to be voted to power? Some say he might sell off the red sandalwood reserves or go on a massive drive to seek donations.
Well, for now, he is caught between a rock and a hard place.
