In the backdrop of wide spread protests and strikes in Seemandhra because of the government decision to create a separate Telangana state, the region may get an IIT, an IIM and an AIIMS-like hospital.
An India Today report says, “There is more in the offing — a new port, central university and fashion and research institutes.”
The GoM meet last week had also asked the planning commission to allot funds for development of the Seemandhra region and meet their development needs.
The Hindustan Times reported government sources as saying, “the backward areas of Rayalseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to get substantial funds to meet their developmental needs”.
The government has repeatedly tried to pacify angry Seemandhra by promising development in the region and saying it would not face trouble after the state is bifurcated. While Seemandhra ministers too have played their bit in going against the bifurcation, the Centre has promised justice for Seemandhra.
The Hindu, in a report, had quoted Digvijaya Singh as saying that “it was the responsibility of the Congress party, including MPs, Ministers, MLAs and the Chief Minister, to find a solution so that the best possible deal is given to Seemandhra, Telangana and the people of Hyderabad“.
The GoM, headed by Shinde, was constituted to address all the issues that need resolution at the central and state government levels in the matter.
After its first meeting on October 11, the GoM had said it would address all concerns of the people of Andhra Pradesh with “fairness and objectivity”.
The GoM has already discussed the approach and methodology to be adopted by it and said it would take the opinions of stakeholders on all important subjects while formulating its recommendations.
