The attack on a journalist by Amanchi Swamulu, brother of Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan in broad day light in Chirala town on Sunday shows the blatant lawlessness among the Telugu Desam Party leaders across the state.
Swamulu brutally assaulted and beat up journalist M Nagarjuna Reddy in whole public view and even the police were watching it as mute spectators.
The “crime” committed by the journalist was to write a story in his local Telugu magazine about the alleged corrupt activities of the MLA and his brother like sand mafia and swindling of loans in the name of weaker sections etc.
Reddy would have died had the others not stopped the MLA’s brother and rescued him. He was later admitted to Guntur hospital for treatment, where his condition is said to be serious.
Though the police registered cases against the MLA's brother and his aides, it is doubtful whether any action will be taken against them, as Amanchi is known for his highhanded behaviour and nobody would dare touch him.
Apparently, he has full protection from none other than chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who praised him a lot for his “public service” when the MLA, who was elected as an independent in 2014 elections, joined the TDP in September 2015.
If Naidu wants to prove that he is a sincere administrator, he has to take action against the MLA and suspend him from the party. Otherwise, there is every possibility that his image would get a serious beating among the journalist community.
