Telugu Desam Party’s national council member and also politburo member Nara Lokesh Naidu, who has been entrusted with the task of leading the party from the front in the forthcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, is most likely to put up a poor show, according to political observers.
Lokesh, son of AP Chief Minister and party president N Chandrababu Naidu, has not come out with any strategy for the GHMC elections so far.
Ever since he was entrusted with the responsibility of the GHMC polls, several leaders from the TDP in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts defected to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Sources say Lokesh has been taking unilateral decisions without even consulting with either Telangana TDP leaders or seniors from the twin cities. All that he is doing is to bank on the Bharatiya Janata Party which has some hold on the electorate in the city.
“It is definite that Lokesh is going to prove an iron leg for the party in the GHMC elections. If he fails to secure at least 20 seats in the GHMC polls, he is sure to lose his credibility and cannot think of leading the party in the next assembly elections. He should not have accepted this responsibility in the GHMC elections and rather entrusted the task to senior leaders of the party from the city,” an observer analysed.
