Recently, a leading English publication carried a rather interesting story about political heirs.
The story predicts that the chances are quite high that Lokesh will be projected as the CM candidate during the 2019 elections.
If one looks at the functioning of regional parties, it is obvious that this is no new trend. If one takes the example of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah took over from his father Farooq Abdullah. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh was succeeded by his son Akhilesh Yadav. In Orissa, Biju Patnaik’s son Naveen Patnaik has been in power for four terms now.
Closer home, in Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi’s sons Stalin and Alagiri have been contesting to maintain the tradition of family politics. Even YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is striving to keep up the legacy left behind by his late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
Hence, if Chandra Babu moves to the Centre to play an important role in national politics, chances are pretty high that the battle would be between Jagan and Lokesh in 2019.
However, it remains to be seen if Chandra Babu will move to the Centre giving up his CM’s post.
