Will BJD Oppose Telangana?

Will Biju Janata Dal, headed by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, oppose Telangana Bill when introduced in Parliament?

This was the doubt expressed by many after the meeting between YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and Patnaik in Bhubaneshwar on Sunday.

After the meeting, Patnaik said the division of Andhra Pradesh had been proposed for "narrow political gains."

He said the issue needed a sensitive political dialogue.

However, it is not clear whether BJD would vote against Telangana Bill in Parliament or not, as Patnaik did not make any such assurance to Jagan during the meeting.

The BJD had been an ally of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) which supports Telangana. Though Patnaik has been adopting an independent stand, one doubts how far he would differ with the NDA on Telangana formation.

On the other hand, it would be easy for Odisha to deal with a divided Andhra Pradesh.
