Why Special Status To Telangana?

Why Special Status To Telangana?

Stating that the Planning Commission had declared eight out of the ten districts in Telangana as backward, KCR promptly armed with a doctored file in his hands, met Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley and requested the latter to give ‘special status’ to Telangana.

But he was completely taken aback by the no-nonsense query of Arun Jaitley who said, “Why do you need a special status when revenue-generating Hyderabad is part of your State?”

KCR then took elaborate pains to explain that the revenue was not along projected lines.

"Oil companies and AP Beverages Corporation in undivided Andhra Pradesh used to pay taxes in Hyderabad. Now, with the state divided these companies invariably have to pay taxes in both the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Therefore, Hyderabad, which was projected as collecting more taxes, was not getting the taxes as it was projected earlier”, said KCR.

One cannot help appreciate the nerve of KCR! On one hand, he calls Modi, a ‘sannasi’ and then meets Jaitley, a hard core, Modi-loyalist for support.

On the other, he is primarily responsible for companies shifting away from Hyderabad with his vitriolic remarks and then wonders why revenues are not along projected lines.
