Why KCR is silent on Modi ordinances?

Why KCR is silent on Modi ordinances?

At a time when there is a strong opposition from the non-BJP parties against Narendra Modi government’s strategy to promulgate ordinances on crucial issues like forcible land acquisition, Telangana Rashtra Samithi government headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao has remained surprisingly silent.

The Land Acquisition Ordinance allows the government to acquire land from farmers for public purposes by offering them suitable compensation without having the need to take their consent.

This ordinance is said to have been brought in by the Centre under pressure from Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu who wants huge chunk of land for the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.

Though the Congress, the YSR Congress and the Left parties have strongly opposed the ordinance, KCR has not uttered a word against the same.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Laxmaiah on Saturday demanded that the TRS join the agitations taken up by the opposition parties against the ordinance to amend the Land Acquisition Act.

He said the amendments in the Act would hamper the rights of farmers in the country as a whole.

Apparently, KCR is of the view that the ordinance would benefit his government as well, as he is also struggling to acquire land for the developmental projects. Or another reason could be: KCR does not want to rub Modi government on wrong shoulders, as the TRS government desperately needs Central help for the development of the new State.
