![Why Did Mudragada Defer His 'Deeksha?'](https://www.greatandhra.com/newphotos9/ga_politics1611037702.jpeg)
Kapu strongman Mudragada Padmanabham, who threatened to relaunch his “deeksha” again from Friday, announced that he was postponing his agitation indefinitely.
This has come as a surprise to his followers, as they were preparing for yet another violent agitation. The reason cited by Mudragada for postponing the agitation was silly: he said he did not want to disturb the students who were writing Class X and Intermediate examinations. So, he will take a call after the examinations.
First of all, the Kapu agitation has nothing do with the examinations of students, who would anyway not participate in the movement.
If the exams are the reason, why did Mudragada launch the agitation a few weeks ago, when the students were preparing for examinations in full swing? Moreover, didn’t Mudragada know that this is the examination season, when he announced March 11 as the date for revival of the agitation?
So, there is no substance in his reasoning for deferring the agitation. Sources said Mudragada was apprehensive that the agitation this time might not get the attention of the people, because Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been adopting divide and rule policy on Kapus.
The community is now virtually split into pro- and anti-TDP groups and the pro-TDP group has been effectively campaign against Mudragada.
Secondly, the announcement of Rs 1,000 crore for Kapu Corporation in the State budget on Thursday has virtually taken the sting out of the Mudragada agitation.
If he goes ahead with the agitation, it might prove counter-productive and Naidu team may launch a counter-offensive. That is why Mudragada wants to adopt a wait and watch approach, say sources.
