Why are BRS leaders targeting YSRC government?

The comments being made by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders about the alleged lack of development and proper administration in Andhra Pradesh appear to be a deliberate plan to provoke the ruling YSR Congress party leaders.

Starting with Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao and agriculture minister S Niranjan Reddy, the BRS leaders including MLAs Peddi Sudershan Reddy and Chanti Kranthi Kiran have been attacking the YSRC government in AP led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It started with Harish Rao on Tuesday calling upon the constructions workers from Andhra to come to Telangana and register themselves as voters here, as no works were going on in AP and the conditions in Telangana are much better than in AP.

Expectedly Harish Rao’s comments evoked sharp reactions from YSRC leaders including AP education minister Botsa Satyanarayana and animal husbandry minister Seediri Appala Raju, who shouted at him and asked him to mind his business, instead of losing his tongue.

They said in fact, Telangana government itself was suffering from policy paralysis and there was lack of governance in the state.

Harish Rao retorted saying the ministers should come to Telangana ad see what really is happening here.

"What is there in Andhra Pradesh? What has happened to the issue of Special Status? No one talks even after denial of special status by the Centre. And they are pointing accusing finger at Telangana, which has made significant strides in development without relying on such special status,” he said.

“So, if the AP ministers have nothing constructive to contribute, they should refrain from unnecessary criticism and focus on their own affairs,” he said.

According to analysts, the comments by BRS leaders are part of the strategy to highlight KCR’s achievements, rather than targeting the Jagan government.

“It is only to project that Telangana is a better administered state than any other state, including Andhra Pradesh. It is like projecting a line bigger, by drawing a smaller line beside it,” an analyst said.
