There were reports in the media on Thursday about a US-based Indian doctor filing a lawsuit in a US court against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and business tycoon Gautam Adani alleging corruption and witch-hunt of political rivals using Pegasus spyware.
According to the report, the lawsuit against Modi, Jagan and Adani has been filed by Richmond-based gastroenterologist Dr Lokesh Vuyyuru on May 24.
The US District Court for the District of Columbia has issued summons to all these leaders, along with several others, which were served on them in India on August 4.
Even Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and chairman of the World Economic Forum was also named as one of the respondents in the case. He was issued summons in Switzerland on August 2.
Surprisingly, the reports said, Dr Lokesh has not enclosed any documentary evidence to his petition.
He made wild allegations that Modi, Reddy and Adani, along with others, are engaged in corruption, including massive cash transfers to the US and use of Pegasus spyware against political opponents.
Eminent Indian-American attorney from New York Ravi Batra has described the complaint as frivolous and a toilet paper. It appears Lokesh has too much free time on his hands, seeing his improper use of our federal courts by filing his 53-page complaint to defame and disparage India, he said.
WHO’S THIS VUYYURU?
This is not the first time that Dr Lokesh Vuyyuru filed such fake complaints. This doctor, who claims himself as a renowned internal medicine specialist and gastroenterologist, hails from Guntur and is settled in Richmond for the last 20 years. He had even fought the elections for the post of Governor of Virginia in 2013.
A search about Dr Lokesh has revealed that in 2006, he filed a complaint against his former colleague Dr Gopinath Jadhav and two hospitals, raising allegations of Medicare and Medicaid fraud for conducting unnecessary biopsies.
The court dismissed the lawsuit after finding that the allegations were based on disclosures in articles of the Virginia Times, a newspaper owned and operated by Dr Lokesh himself.
The court also ordered that Dr Lokesh paid US $68,000 to the defendants towards attorneys’ fees since his lawsuit was “clearly frivolous.”
He also filed another lawsuit against Dr Jadhav alleging business conspiracy, racketeering, abuse of process, and retaliation. The Board of Medicine of Virginia and others sought revocation of his medical licence and the court upheld the same.
The court also enjoined Vuyyuru from “filing any further lawsuit challenging the board’s decision.
