While the Ayutha Chandi Yagam being performed by Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is getting rave reviews, he is also getting a lot of brickbats for splurging the public money on his personal affair.
KCR had clarified in the past that he was spending his own money on the Yagam and the expenditure would be around Rs 3 crore. Sources close to him said most of the money was mobilized from his party leaders and philanthropists.
However, according to soures, the total expenditure for the Yagam has crossed Rs 20 crore and the money spent by KCR was too little. Though it is projected as a personal affair of KCR, the Telangana government spent huge amounts on the preparatory work.
The entire official machinery of Medak is in full force at Erravelli with almost all the Cabinet members involved in it. Crores of rupees were spent on recarpeting the roads, providing drinking water supply to visitors and electrifying the entire venue.
"For the last several days, not a single Medak district official is doing any other work but sprucing up Erravelli," alleged former Congress minister Sunitha Laxma Reddy.
