The newly emerged state of Andhra Pradesh has reached the 30-day mark today. The state was officially formed on June 8 with 13 states.
But what is CM Chandra Babu’s score card after a month in office? How is he faring in terms of the promises he made prior to the elections to make sure he is voted to power?
Well, let’s take a quick look:
Let’s start with the contentious issue of loan waiving. Though Chandra Babu promised the moon, he could not fulfill his promise and neither does he look capable of resolving the issue in the coming days. Though he signed five files after he was sworn in, nothing has been put into action.
Barring the extension of retirement age, no other issue has been resolved.
Similarly, the state hasn’t been able to decide on a capital city. The state administration is being carried out of Hyderabad which is the common capital for 10 years. Though the first Assembly sessions have been held, Babu could not say by when he would fulfill his pre-poll promises.
Much time was spent on criticizing previous governments and nothing concrete was discussed in terms of future agenda.
After coming to power after a decade, the TDP’s recent actions have given rise to fears that they might stoke faction politics, organize public demonstrations and show their might on the police force. One incident that shocked many people is the appointment of a person who was accused in many cases as the Anantapur ZP chairman.
Another issue that has become a matter of concern to many is the deficit budget on which the Babu government is totally silent. There are also allegations that the party is wasting too much time on encouraging defections instead of working on the party agenda.
Babu is also drawing criticism for procrastinating on major issues despite being the CM of 13 districts. Also, he hasn’t secured any special support or financial aid owing to his pre-poll alliance with the BJP.
So, in all, Babu has scored negative marks and hasn’t managed at least a zero. Now, the TDP might argue that it is merely a month since Babu has come to power. But they need to remember that the party is no longer in opposition and people expect them to deliver instead of finding ways to push the blame on to others.
