What Wrong Did He Say?

Politicians have always been the bane of India. They do nothing for the betterment of the people but are actively at the forefront in preventing positive people from expressing their opinion or trying to do good.

A group of MP’s from Rajya Sabha are likely to seek impeachment proceedings against a Gujarat High Court judge. 50 signatures of Rajya Sabha MP’s are required and the process of collecting them is on.

What did the Honorable Judge say? He said that “reservations are a drag on the country’s progress.”

Even when Mohan Bhagwat said recently that there ought to be a review of the reservation system in the nation, there was a hue and cry over the issue and the BJP itself sought to distance itself from the remarks saying they were misconstrued. But what is wrong in what they said?

Reservation policy has indeed turned out to be a curse for the nation with every community jostling for some kind of reservation or the other.

How can reservations lead to a society based on meritocracy? Economic backwardness should be the criteria, not caste or religion. Did not Ambedkar himself say that the reservations should be in vogue only for 10 years?

It’s a joke indeed that one need not even get the qualifying marks in an EAMCET exam but can become a doctor or an engineer and later on a government employee. The only eligibility factor for him is reservation irrespective of his financial status.

What kind of society will such bright minds build? And unfortunately, people who come up in life this way continue to perpetuate this legacy.

KR Narayanan, a Dalit who went on to become the President of this nation called for reservations in the private sector as well. That would be sufficient to undo the entire gains from the 1991 reforms.

It’s not the Gujarat High Court judge who should be removed from office, it’s the Rajya Sabha MP’s who sign that useless petition who should be forever debarred from Parliament.
