Uppuleti Kalpana, YSR Congress party MLA from Pamarru in Krishna district, will be the 21st party MLA who will be taking a plunge into the ruling Telugu Desam Party on Friday.
Kalpana has confirmed on Thursday that she would joining the TDP in the presence of party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his camp office on Friday. She already met AP TDP President Kala Venkat Rao on Wednesday and got the approval.
Kalpana was one of the strong critics of the TDP and Naidu till recently for engineering defections. But one does not know what made her defect into the TDP.
Her followers say YSR Congress party had no future in Krishna and Guntur districts and she does not want to risk her future staying in YSR Congress.
Kalpana was earlier in TDP. She lost in her first two attempts in 2004 and 2009 on TDP ticket in the same constituency and finally joined YSR Congress and won against Varla Ramaiah in 2014.
The talk is that Naidu had promised Kalpana that her husband, who is a senior officer in the Income Tax department, would be promoted as IT commissioner.
After his retirement, he would be given the Lok Sabha ticket in 2019 elections from Bapatla and the party would bear the election expenditure both husband and wife. So, that is the lure!
