A huge meeting of BCs was held in Hyderabad on Thursday in protest against the ordinance issued by KCR reducing the BC reservation from 34 percent to 23 percent in the soon-to-be-held Panchayati Raj polls.
Cutting across Party lines, BC politicians from various Parties (except TRS) attended the meeting and demanded that KCR revoke the ordinance immediately.
“They give us welfare schemes and sit in the Assembly and Parliament. Don’t BC’s have the right to political representation? We don’t want welfare schemes, we want an equal share in power,” thundered one BC leader.
“The Doras (Velamas) are enjoying power and giving us sheep and bulls to rear. This is unacceptable,” said another.
Stating that the Sakala Janula Survey had clearly revealed that BCs constituted 54% of the population in Telangana, the leaders demanded political representation on a par with their population.
On the other hand, it is significant to note down the reason that Danam Nagender gave when he switched loyalties from the Congress to the TRS recently.
Danam Nagender who won as MLA from Khairatabad on TRS ticket said at the time of his defection that BCs were not getting their fair due in Congress.
“BCs are being sidelined in the Congress. That is why I am joining the TRS which has been at the forefront in doing justice to BCs,” said Danam Nagender.
Now, what does Danam have to say about this ordinance? Is KCR right or the BCs? Does Danam still stick to his reason for jumping onto the pink bandwagon or will he stick by his community?
Maybe, it won’t be hard to guess what his response will be if there is one.
