It is not uncommon for Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to make frequent visits to Raj Bhavan to meet Governor E S L Narasimhan.
Initially people used to wonder why KCR was regularly going to Raj Bhavan, but subsequently they stopped bothering about it.
Mostly, the chief minister used to spend 30-40 minutes in Raj Bhavan to discuss issues pertaining to the government and crucial decisions taken by his cabinet etc.
Now, KCR is only a caretaker chief minister and there would be nothing that he would discuss with the Governor as far as policy decisions are concerned because of the enforcement of model code of conduct.
Even then, there is no rule that prevents the caretaker chief minister to call on the Governor either for courtesy or to extend greetings or even for friendly chatting.
But, when the chief minister spent nearly two hours in Raj Bhavan a couple of days ago, it raised many eyebrows.
Naturally his political opponents question what issue was there to be discussed by KCR with the Governor for such a long time. And speculations have started over in the social media over the purpose of the meeting.
Recently, KCR went on a day’s visit to New Delhi in the name of eye-testing. There was a talk that he had held secret deliberations with some top people in the Centre on the cash-for-vote case involving Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is creating a big headache for the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership in Delhi.
After taking specific instructions from the Centre, KCR returned to Hyderabad to expedite the case.
This was the reason for KCR meeting the Governor and explaining him about his proposed action against the Andhra Pradesh chief minister.
He sought Narasimhan’s advice on how to go about in the case, its possible political implications and the chances of Naidu being arrested.
“If a situation arises when Naidu is arrested, then there would be collapse of administration in Andhra Pradesh and it might lead to imposition of President’s Rule in the state. That is why the KCR briefed the Governor about the case,” an analyst said.
