What About The Students?

Bowing in to pressure from the students and the YSRCP, the authorities have booked a case against Babu Rao, the Principal of ANU College of Architecture and Planning, for his alleged complicity in not being able to prevent ragging by seniors which led to suicide of M. Rishiteshwari, a student of B. Archeology.

By holding the Principal responsible for this tragedy, a message will go out to all academic heads for failing to act against similar incidents on their campuses.

But justice would have been done in this case only when action is taken against the students who drove the young girl to suicide.

No mercy need be shown towards students who with their behavior can taunt a fellow student so much that she is forced to take the extreme step. They are beyond redemption and stringent punishment should be meted out to them.

There are rumors that the authorities are going soft on the students as they apparently belong to the same social community as the ruling party. If that is really true, then the Chief Minister should step in and ensure justice.

An educational institution is the last place where casteism should be fostered and the ruling party should remember that they cannot expect to be in power forever. Hence, shielding criminals on the basis of casteism will set a very bad precedent which can easily come back to haunt them in future when they are themselves out of power.

The CM is CM for the entire State, not just a particular community. As such, in the best interests of the State, he should act in an impartial manner and restore the faith of the people in the system.
