The PCC President Botsa Satyanarayana has admitted that the ruling party has lost much of its support base in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions.
This is a direct fallout of the Congress' decision to bifurcate the state.
The people of Seemandhra are deeply upset over the decision and adding to their consternation is the way the decision was sought to be implemented without addressing the concerns of the people.
"We cannot be faulted for taking the decision to divide the state because it was arrived at only after all the major parties gave their consent letters. While other parties are using the Telangana issue for their political mileage, the Congress has been the sole exception," Botsa said.
He attacked the Telugu Desam Party and YSR Congress Party for taking a U-turn on the bifurcation issue after first agreeing for division of the state.
"It is because of their volte face for political purpose, the problems have cropped up. The people will teach them a fitting lesson," the PCC Chief said.
On their part, the Seemandhra Congress leaders were doing their best to pressurise the Centre to resolve all issues being raised by the people of all regions.
Botsa has been bearing the brunt of the public anger in Seemandhra, particularly in his home town of Vizianagaram.
The north coastal Andhra town was under curfew for several days as large scale violence had erupted with the agitators targeting properties belonging to Botsa and his family members.
