There have been plenty of incidents in the past when leaders who became too powerful or vocal in the Party had their wings clipped mercilessly.
But that is what politics is, an arena of inimitable intrigue where no mercy is shown.
Political circles are increasingly debating the issue whether Revanth Reddy has in fact been trapped with the support of the TDP?
What lends credence to the theory is the fact that a car bearing a ‘Mahanadu logo’ was allegedly spotted at the residence of Elvis Stephenson, a day prior to the sting operation.
Why would the TDP set up its own man, Revanth Reddy? One theory is that Revanth had become the face of the TDP in Telangana.
He was the bitterest critic of KCR and was hopeful of being rewarded for that.
But he had also brought undue pressure on CBN to make him the T-TDP President by allegedly having his posters put up at TDP office in Banjara Hills and also bragging about his elevation in T-TDP to the top post without official confirmation.
Naturally, this will not go down well with the high command of the TDP. In the past, a similar event took place when Krishna Yadav was becoming too powerful in the TDP and was conveniently implicated in the ‘Telgi scam’ bringing his political career to an end.
But Naidu’s supporters argue that it is inconceivable to think Revanth was given up by his own Party.
“Did not the exposure of the tapes create a dent in Naidu’s own credibility? Why would he take such a risk at the cost of implicating himself?” they question.
Another theory is that Revanth had enlisted the support of a few TRS MLA’s also to get his candidate Narender Reddy elected as MLC.
Revanth had mentioned this fact to Errabelli Dayakar Rao who inadvertently mentioned this in an informal chat with a TRS Minister.
This alerted the TRS to Revanth’s activities leading to the sting operation. People tend to look at politics in terms of ‘black and white’.
But the reality is always ‘shades of grey’. Will the truth about the ‘Revanth Reddy’ episode ever be known?
