Was Jagan Hasty In Opposing Capital Function?

The letter written by YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asking the latter not to send any invitation to him for the foundation laying ceremony for Amaravati has raised many eyebrows.

A section of political observers are of the view that Jagan acted in a bit haste in writing the letter, ignoring the advice of senior party leaders.

Generally, if a person gets an invitation for any function, he can reject it openly citing reasons.

“If Jagan does not want to attend the capital foundation laying function, he has every right to reject the invitation showing valid reasons. After receiving the invitation, he could have written an open letter to people explaining why he is not attending the function, which is being held against the wishes of farmers. But writing a letter to Naidu asking him not to send any invitation is a bit ridiculous,” a political analyst observed.

According to these observers, the letter has only exposed lack of political maturity on the part of Jagan, as it would not fetch any political mileage. Instead, it has given an opportunity for the TDP leaders to attack him and his party and take the political advantage away from him.

However, the YSR Congress party on Friday defended the stand of its party chief in writing the letter to Naidu.

“Our intentions was not to attend Amaravati foundation event, as the government is hosting this event by forcefully grabbing the land from farmers. We did not want to be part of this event, when farmers are not happy,” party spokesman Parthasarathy said.
