Vizag 'power plant' belongs to AP, not Telangana

The Hinduja 'Power Plant' in Visakhapatnam is nearing completion and is all set to go operational from February.

1040 MW of power would be generated from this ‘plant’ and the Hindujas have agreed to sell the entire power to AP.

Enter TRS & Co armed with a copy of the AP Reorganization Act demanding that 53.89% of the share go to Telangana.

Power distribution companies in Telangana have also met the officials of the company warning the latter that legal action would be initiated if Telangana fails to get its share of power from the Vizag plant.

To this, the Hindujas responded that they are a private organization and would sell power on the basis of the ‘power purchase agreements’ (PPA) they have with its clients.

The claims of the Telangana government could have been viewed sympathetically had they followed the AP Reorganization Act strictly in all issues.

But when it comes to drawing of excess power from Srisailam, they throw the rule book to the winds and wherever favorable to them, they quote the rules.

Amidst this entire legal wrangle, it would be interesting to look at the response of the people of Vizag themselves.

Dr. Phanindra Sharma, a doctor from Vizag says: “Despite repeated pleas, they wanted to separate from us and did! They called us dogs, cheaters and looters. They have their own government now. It is high time that they keep off us now. There is absolutely no question of an asset located in Vizag to be made available for the use of KCR. It belongs to Andhra Pradesh and should be used for the benefit of the people of Andhra Pradesh only! Chandrababu should see to it!”

Thanks to KCR and Co, even highly educated persons are speaking on an emotional rather than an objective basis.
