Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu might have taken a unilateral decision on making Vijayawada as the new capital of the State, but it cannot be implemented just like that.
This was the opinion expressed by former judge of the Supreme Court Justice Lakshman Reddy. He said just because Naidu had made an announcement, Vijayawada cannot be the capital of the new State.
Speaking at the “Kadapa Aakali Keka” programme organized jointly by RSF and RSU demanding that the State Capital be located in Rayalaseema, Justice Lakshman Reddy said that there were some special procedures for setting up of the Capital. He said that while leaving Rayalaseema region where thousands of acres of land was lying waste, selection of an area where three crops are yielding in a year was something ‘inhuman’.
He further said that the Centre was studying the Sivaramakrishnan Committee report and it would not take a decision that would destroy green fields where crops are grown.
RSF leader Bhaskar questioned whether the country’s capital was in the centre of the country. Many States are not having their capitals in the heart of the State and then where was the need for such a decision in respect of Andhra Pradesh alone, he asked.
